The most significant organizational development issue for private and public sector organizations today is how to identify, develop and retain talented leaders for the future. To survive in today’s world of warp-speed change, global competition and increased accountability, businesses need strong, skillful and experienced leaders.
Yet those leaders are becoming harder and harder to find. Many business publications have recently warned of upcoming critical shortages of skilled workers and managers.
Businesses increasingly need to look inward to develop a succession of talent -- strengthening and retaining their teams of direct reports and department heads, from which their future top executives can come.
THE ExPo RESPONSE
To meet this need, Excell offers ExPo, a continuous development program for rising executives in firms of many sizes. Using the techniques and group processes so successfully tested over two decades of work with CEO peer groups, ExPo provides:
An environment for learning, with similarly-situated peers
An emphasis on leadership, problem solving and effective team management
A broad network of resources and peers
ExPo helps build multi-skilled executives ready to grow with their companies. And while learning, they improve their performance in their current positions.
HOW DOES ExPo DO ALL THIS?
The core of the ExPo program is the monthly full-day retreat.
The morning of the retreat day, ExPo members gather for presentations from local and regional experts carefully selected by Excell, and purposefully in tune with members’ current information and skill needs. For the first six months, these presentations focus on building the core leadership skills. Then they move into an extensive curriculum covering business infrastructure, additional leadership tools, and personal/business life balance.
The afternoon session of the retreat involves small-group work teams where members meet a diverse mix of business types, areas of specialization, and experience levels. In the groups, members rotate leadership roles and develop their core leadership skills through live practice. They analyze and present to the group actual issues from their businesses, and bring together the members’ knowledge, experience and skills to develop solutions. Excell’s trained and experienced facilitators monitor and support the group sessions.
MOVING FORWARD
ExPo is a membership program exclusively for candidates for advancement who are committed to personal growth and professional excellence, and who bring something to the program – their experience, skills and passion to improve.
Excell is currently forming ExPo groups in Portland, Oregon, and Boise, Idaho, with long-range plans for other Pacific Northwest cities.
