GROUP CHAIRS
A Group Chair develops and manages an executive peer group in a specific geographic area. Selected individuals will receive an area to operate under Excell’s name, consistent with our standards and operating processes, establishing their position in a growing business. After training at our home office in Portland, Oregon, Group Chairs develop business and marketing plans specific to their areas.
Chairs organize and facilitate Excell group meetings, conduct one-to-one consultations with members, and spearhead the member recruitment process. From Excell, they receive training and consultation. Specific duties include:
Lead and facilitate monthly meetings of a specific Excell groupConduct monthly consultations with individual membersPlan and prepare for all meetings
Acquire or assist in the acquisition of new members
Coordinate closely with Excell or their Area Developer
Attend once-a-year, no-host Chair meetings in Portland, Oregon
Chairing an Excell group is a part-time position generally requiring one to two weeks per month after a more intense start-up period. Some Chairs lead more than one group and develop their Excell experience into full-time work. Most Chairs lead groups of “growth" firms – those doing from $3 to $100 million in gross sales; these groups meet monthly for a full day. Based on their success, they may lead more than one such group or start a group in one of our other programs.
SELECTION
Chairs are selected through a three-step process.
- Interested potential Chairs are asked to complete an application form and all questions on our self-evaluator on this web site, and also submit their resume. We will contact you to discuss this information and to explore your interest. If an acting Chair later decides to become a franchise, they may request a copy of our Franchise Disclosure Document.
- Following these steps, candidates may be asked to work with a private evaluator to determine their suitability for this work. We see this as an important step to assess a candidate's aptitude and probability of success. A candidate may also have the opportunity to meet with a current Chair and observe an Excell group meeting, although this may be limited by confidentiality requirements and availability. Feedback from that experience could be included in the selection process.
- We will use this information to assess your strengths and suitability, and continue to discuss opportunities with you. If we are in agreement, you sign our Chair Agreement contract, which includes non-compete clauses and confidentiality commitments, and begin your training and group start-up process.

Chairing An Excell group can be very financially rewarding for the time commitment involved. Members of Excell CEO Groups pay monthly membership dues, so the financial performance of a Group depends on its number of members. Groups must be maintained at between eight and fourteen members, and most average between ten and twelve. Member dues may vary from area to area depending on local market conditions, with $1,000 per month acceptable in most metropolitan areas. As an example, if you operate a group with ten members, your monthly gross compensation would be $5,750. These figures are higher with groups of twelve to fourteen members. Some group operating costs are paid by the members, and most Group Chairs operate from a home office, so overhead costs are low. Because it is based on regular dues and long-term memberships, Excell group income is also far more stable than income from project-based consulting.
Start up costs for most groups typically run between $7,000 to $8,000. This consists of a payment of $5,000 to Excell for mailing lists and on the ground support for recruiting group members. The balance covers marketing materials, business cards and the chair’s own travel and expenses.
For individuals later choosing to become a franchisee, Excell has a straightforward franchise fee for operating a group.
A one-time license fee of $20,000 for the first group and $15,000 for second and subsequent groups in the franchisees territory. One half of the franchise fee for the first group is due at the signing of the contract and the other half is due when the chapter meeting commences and revenue starts to flow.
Franchisees. Receive compensation in two ways
- 50% of the $1,000.00 initiation fee paid by members
- 75% of the monthly membership dues. For a group of 10, this would mean an income of $7,500.00 per month
